The Black Sentinel — Hand-Wrapped Black Jasper Necklace

Black as midnight, bound in gold.

This black jasper went through the tumbler until it came out smooth, matte, and heavy in the hand — a square of solid night. Then I wrapped it by hand in gold-colored copper wire, so the light carries the dark.

Jasper is the earth stone — the one that's been carried for protection and grounding longer than almost any other. Black jasper is its sentinel: it stands watch, absorbs what shouldn't reach you, and keeps your feet on the ground while it does it. Pagans have carried black stones at Samhain for as long as there has been a Samhain: when the veil thins, you wear something steady.

That's what this is. A sentinel for your chest.
